*SOLD* A truly wonderful Antique Holy Bible.
This pocket sized Bible contains both the New & The Old Testaments & was printed by Oxford University Press in 1881.
The pages are gilt edged & there is gilt lettering on the spine “ HOLY BIBLE” & “MAPS”
This Bible has been well used & loved over the last 140 years and rather wonderfully the name of the previous owner has been inscribed in pencil inside the front cover. The fact that this writing is still there & legible after all this time truly fascinates me. The writing is dated January 1st 1885. Wow!
There is the expected age related wear & tear with rubbing on the edges & corners of the cover. There is a split down the spine which leaves the front cover a little loose & one of the pages has a rip to it. Some of the pages are slightly turned over in the corners & have age related spotting to the paper.
None of these issues would be a surprise considering the Bible’s age & the amount of use it has had, but the book is totally fit for purpose, with clear , clean pages and all pages are bound tightly to the spine.
The Bible measures 14 x 9 cm
It is an absolute delight.
A real gem, a fabulous collectors item, a thoughtful gift.
