“A Handbook of Tests” by Cyril Burt is a fascinating collection of tests intended to be used for school age children to see, depending on their results, whether they would attend grammar school, secondary modern or a technical school. The tests formed part of the 11+ first implemented in 1944.
Printed in 1933 the book is in very good condition considering its age with the expected wear & tear on the edges, corners & spine. There is a little writing of the previous owners name & the date June 1938.
“ Making of a Man- A study of Evolution” by Sir Oliver Lodge printed in 1926 is also in good vintage condition, with the name and address of the previous owner written on the inside front page. Other that that there is no other writing but there are some age spots on the ends of some pages
“Keats Poetry & Prose” 1924 has been a very well used book and clearly has been used to aid someone’s study. There are numerous written notes ( in pencil) and underlining of certain parts of the text, plus personal reference notes at the back of the book. I have not rubbed these out as they are quite fascinating to read & to see how someone deciphered the meanings of the poems etc.
The 3 books are very old and therefore do have the expected vintage wear & tear. However,they really do provide an fascinating view in approaches to the educational system, the examination of prose & the opinions of man and evolution nearly 100 years ago.
