Small Vintage Brass Bed Warmer

16/11/2021 By Emma Jervis

*SOLD* A delightful decorative brass warming pan with a lovely turned wooden handle and hanging hook.

The idea behind a warming pan such as this one ( although many were considerably bigger than this one ) would have been to place coal or embers from the fireplace into the pan which was then taken and placed inside the bed to warm up the sheets before bedtime.

This pan is on the small side but would still have been used with the same effect. It has a hanging hook which would have been for the warming pan to hang from next to the fireplace, ready and waiting for the hot coals or embers to be taken from the fire place.

This miniature pan has a lovely etched design on the lid of a village scene. The lid is opened by pulling it up, using the tiny slit in the brass. It needs a little bit of a pull, but does come up and then the lid holds nicely on its hinge.

It is in good vintage condition but there are areas of tarnishing, a few marks to the underside of the base and areas of patina.

A lovey decorative / display piece of homeware, a prop within a business setting or a lovely gift for a lover of all things vintage.

Pan to tip of Handle – 38 cm in length.
